Scott

Small town roots and big opportunities inspire Scott as he leads students at Senator Gershaw School.

Scott Angle grew up in Bow Island and has been the principal of Senator Gershaw School for nine years. He enjoyed growing up in Bow Island, and now plays an important role in the growth of students in the community.

He finds Bow Island a safe place, where everyone knows each other, from parents, to students, and teachers.

I can walk down the street and know most people. We have really fantastic students, and we’re able to provide big city programs in a rural area. The parents have always been easy and nice to work with, and we have great staff who puts the students and families first,” says Scott.

From South Alberta Fire & Rescue, South Alberta Trades Academy, Senator Gershaw Greenhouse Program, and Mavericks School of Baseball, students have a good balance of academics and hands-on learning.

Scott says the class sizes are smaller, and students can build friendships year after year with familiar faces.

Bow Island Elementary and Senator Gershaw School work together well. The older students mentor younger students, which helps build and strengthen the sense of community and belonging on both sides.

It’s small enough, but big enough. We all have access to all kinds of facilities and resources, and it’s all easy to access by being within walking distance,” says Scott.

Bow Island is extremely community minded. You really feel that you’re a part of a community while living here.
