Golden Age Group
From coffee to curling, the Golden Age Group brings Bow Island’s seniors together to stay active, social, and connected.
The Golden Age Group in Bow Island meets throughout the year to take part in activities throughout Bow Island, and one of them in the summer is walking the trail in Centennial Park.
They also meet for Crib & Coffee, curling, slow pitch, and golf. They host crib tournaments, pancake suppers, art clubs, and musical nights.
One of the members says, “We want people to know they’re not alone. They have friends and people in Bow Island with common interests, and we invite everyone to join any of our gatherings.”
The crew enjoys getting together to enjoy the outdoors, take in the beautifully maintained spaces, attend events like Market in the Park, and live in Bow Island alongside and familiar neighbours.
Another member says, “I enjoy walking, and I can walk anywhere in Bow Island from my house. The hospital is a block and a half away. It’s a safe community, and it attracted us because it felt like home when we moved here. It’s so close knit.”
In the summer the group walks Centennial Park, “I like that it’s quiet, and you can walk around the park and see everyone enjoying the space. It’s been so nice and green here. It’s so comfortable to sit down, walk around, and see kids and young families using the space as well.”
One of the members moved to Bow Island to start farming, but what she noticed is that they could get what they needed in Bow Island. It’s still close to the city, so you can drive 40 minutes and be in the city for what you need.
“I just love Bow Island, and that I know most of the people here.”
