Jim
With his family close and a welcoming community, Jim enjoys the slower pace of life in Bow Island.
Jim Robinson’s work brought him, his wife, and grandson to the town of Bow Island in 2021. The rural lifestyle brings family activities and events, beautiful parks, and quiet spaces for them to make memories.
“Bow Island is nice and quiet. We were happy to get out of a bigger city. There was constant noise, but now we enjoy the peace and quiet,” says Jim. “It’s a safe community and it’s pretty laid back.”
Jim is a two minute driving commute from his office, allowing him to drive home for lunch to spend even more time with his family. He spends less time on the road, and more time with his people.
When he isn’t working, he and his family go to the Bow Island Centennial Park, where there’s green space, trails, water park, regular play park, soccer field, picnic tables, trails, and camping, “We spend a lot of time at the park. And last summer we were at the outdoor pool often.”
Near Bow Island’s downtown, the Bow Island Swimming Pool features a shallow kiddie pool, hot tub, diving board, and climbing wall. The climbing wall is equally challenging for any age to reach the top.
The family attends the playgroups and events at the Bow Island Municipal Library, and Robinson says he and his wife really appreciate the smaller class sizes at their grandson’s school. Being located in a bigger city before, they didn’t like the idea of enrolling their grandson into a larger school system.
“Having him in a smaller school, he receives more attention. It’s a really good school with really nice people,” says Jim.
Jim and his wife enjoy the safety that comes with living in a smaller, rural community. With very little traffic, they enjoy being outside together. His grandson often rides his bike outside with them, and rarely are there cars speeding past.
Once in a while, they’ll take a road trip to surrounding areas such as Medicine Hat and Lethbridge for a little vacation. On weekends, they’ll load up the car for a day trip to shop, and then go for breakfast.
“It's a very nice town. It is close enough to the bigger centre, and you get to enjoy more of a quiet life,” says Jim.
