Kaylee
Between the tournaments, festivals, and friendships, Kaylee discovered that small-town life in Bow Island offers big opportunities to connect.
Kaylee Hurt moved to Bow Island six years ago after meeting her now husband, who already lived in the town.
She’s originally from Milk River, but moved to Bow Island while attending Medicine Hat College and loved the community so much she was happy to stay.
“I love it here. I love how community oriented it is here. No matter what you do, you always find a group and find friendships through all the events and leagues in the town,” says Kaylee.
With many opportunities for volunteer work, and multiple events happening throughout the year, there is something to do for all ages.
Kaylee says she and her friends are involved in sports, where there’s volleyball tournaments and hockey tournaments, so whether they’re playing or attending, the sports community brings a vibrant energy to Bow Island.
“All the options for sports are a great way to stay active. We truly use all our facilities to the best of our ability. We have the Children’s Festival in June and it’s so fun. There’s bouncy castles and face painting, and it's free for the community.”
She says most events are free due to Bow Island being a town. The event hosts want as many people as possible to enjoy the activities, so accessibility is an important factor.
“It’s amazing to see how everyone is included, whether you’re a senior, young adult, or a young family. And being in a small town with such a supportive atmosphere, you know you’re friends and neighbours care so much about you. There’s a sense of belonging. No matter what you’re doing, you’re creating some type of positive effect in the community.”
